GKR Alternative Needs
GKR Alt Needs Case Studies (Bonus Learning)
This module was created to support instructors in understanding and responding to the diverse needs of students in our Alternative Needs karate classes.
Through detailed case studies based on real experiences in our dojo, instructors can build empathy, practice decision-making, and improve their ability to adapt teaching approaches for students with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and physical needs in a respectful and engaging way.
Each case study includes guided reflection questions based on five key training areas:
Engagement & Predictability
Behaviour & Redirection
Instruction Adaptation & Communication
Movement & Karate Skills
Personal Support & Growth
These focus areas help instructors practise real-world decision-making and build essential skills for inclusive teaching. While the module was originally designed for junior instructors, it provides valuable insight and structured learning for instructors of any age or experience level.
Course designed and trademarked by Sensei Erica at EPIC Inclusion Consulting.
