EPIC Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

This Code of Conduct outlines the professional and ethical standards that guide all work undertaken by Erica Pitt Inclusion Consulting (EPIC). It exists to protect clients, organisations, children and families, and to ensure EPIC’s services are delivered with integrity, care, and accountability.

EPIC is committed to ethical, respectful, and evidence-informed practice that supports the inclusion and participation of neurodivergent and disabled children in community settings.

This Code applies to all services provided by EPIC, including audits, program design, consultancy, training, and any written resources.

 

2. Core Principles

EPIC is guided by the following principles:

  • Respect for the dignity, rights and lived experiences for all people, particularly children and those with disabilities.

  • Neuro-affirming and strengths-based practice

  • Child safety and wellbeing

  • Practical, realistic, and context-aware recommendations

  • Professional integrity and accountability

  • Transparency, professional boundaries and ethical clarity

  • Cultural sensitivity and ongoing learning

This Code of Conduct is informed by EPIC’s Accessibility & Inclusion Statement and reflects EPIC’s commitment to respectful, inclusive, and accessible professional practice. The Statement is available on the EPIC website or on request.

 

3. Legislative & Rights-Based Frameworks

EPIC’s practice is informed by, and aligned with, the following Australian and international frameworks:

Australian Frameworks

  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) – prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability and supporting reasonable adjustments

  • Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) – governing the collection, use, and protection of personal information

  • Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 (Cth) – supporting equality and human rights protections

International Frameworks

  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – recognising children’s rights to participation, safety, dignity, and development

  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) – affirming the rights of disabled people to inclusion, accessibility, and non-discrimination

EPIC does not provide legal advice but operates in a manner consistent with these frameworks.

 

4. Professional Conduct

EPIC commits to:

  • Acting honestly, ethically, and in good faith at all times

  • Providing services within the scope agreed with the client

  • Communicating clearly, respectfully, and professionally

  • Delivering services that are evidence-informed and context-aware

  • Declining, limiting, or withdrawing from work where a conflict of interest or lack of capacity exists. Details are outlined further in EPIC’s Conflict of Interest, available on request or via EPIC’s website.

EPIC will not:

  • Misrepresent qualifications, experience, or outcomes

  • Guarantee specific results or organisational change

  • Provide services beyond agreed scope without written agreement

 

5. Scope of Practice & Professional Boundaries

EPIC provides advisory and design-focused services only, including consultancy, audits and program reviews.

EPIC does not:

  • Provide legal, medical, or psychological advice

  • Provide clinical or therapeutic services

  • Provide crisis response or emergency intervention

  • Provide behaviour support plans or NDIS reports

  • Diagnose or directly support individual participants

  • Act as a regulator or compliance authority

  • Implement programs or manage staff or volunteers

Clear boundaries are maintained to protect both EPIC and client organisations.

EPIC does not replace organisational responsibility for implementation, supervision, or duty of care.

 

6. Child Safety & Wellbeing

EPIC is committed to child safety and recognises the rights of children to feel safe, respected, and supported. While most services are delivered remotely and at an organisational level, EPIC will:

  • Act in the best interests of children at all times

  • Prioritise the well-being, dignity, and safety of children in all recommendations

  • Avoid practices that are punitive, exclusionary or harmful

  • Promote inclusive, safe, and respectful environments that reduce distress and facilitate participation

  • Respond appropriately to concerns related to child safety

  • Comply with child safety, reporting, and privacy obligations relevant to the jurisdiction

EPIC does not engage directly in child supervision or care as part of its services.

 

7. Respectful & Inclusive Practice

EPIC commits to:

  • Using respectful, non-discriminatory, strengths-based language

  • Recognising neurodiversity as a natural human variation

  • Valuing lived experience, including neurodivergent perspectives, and family expertise

  • Avoiding deficit-based, pathologising, or compliance-driven frameworks

  • Recognising intersectionality, including disability, culture, genter and socioeconomic factors.

EPIC will not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or exclusion on the basis of disability, neurodivergence, race, culture, gender, sexuality, religion, or family structure.

 

8. Confidentiality & Privacy

EPIC respects confidentiality and manages information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. EPIC treats all client information as confidential.

Information is:

  • Collected only where necessary for service delivery

  • Stored securely with appropriate access controls

  • Shared only with consent or where legally required

9. Conflicts of Interest

EPIC will:

  • Disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest

  • Take steps to transparently manage or avoid conflicts where they arise

  • Decline work where conflicts cannot be appropriately managed

 

10. Professional Integrity & Accountability

EPIC commits to:

  • Working within competence and capacity

  • Declining work that exceeds scope or ethical boundaries

  • Being honest about limitations and uncertainty

  • Ongoing professional learning, personal development, and reflective, ethical practice

  • Responding respectfully to feedback or concerns

  • Correcting errors if identified

EPIC welcomes respectful feedback and is committed to reflective improvement. Concerns may be raised directly with EPIC and will be handled professionally and respectfully.

This Code of Conduct applies to all Erica Pitt Inclusion Consulting services and operates alongside the Client Agreement, Service Addendums, Privacy Policy, and related documents.

 

11. Review & Changes to this Code

This Code of Conduct is reviewed periodically and may be updated to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, or EPIC’s services. The current version will be available on EPIC’s website or provided upon request.
